Queer Roommate Wanted Oct 1st [Aug. 20th, 2008|09:16 pm]

vancouver

[dine_in_or_out]
3 level apt, 2 br, 2 bth, in-suite laundry, dishwasher, own floor to yourself, 2 huge balconies, 10min walk to Joyce Skytrain, located on Kingsway just west of Boundary. $550 for rent, $45 for internet/cable, $40 hydro.

I am looking for a queer roommate, who doesn't like to throw parties minus holiday/birthday ones, who won't care that i'm not veg/vegan, who isn't allergic to cats cause i'm getting a kitten, who isn't up all night being loud(as I get up at 7am mon-fri) who is between 24-30yrs old, who has a steady job, who cleans up after themselves, and who is honest and respectful. And who's partner isn't over ALL the time.

I am super fun to live with, have a great movie collection, work at The Party Bazaar so can decorate with the most insane items, am queer and casually smokes, rarely drinks, who loves hanging out and who is obsessed with Grey's Anatomy.

The furniture I have is a 28" tv, coffee table, kitchen table/chairs, red velvet couch.
If you're interested please email me with a description of yourself, where you work or if you're a student, and what furniture you have.

So for my senior project i was thinking... I would make a handmade book of Herbs-remedies/recipes/and the herb and what it is/from/what it can do for the body whether healing..sickness..or nurture...and like a picture of each herb--like pressed on to the rice paper or something? and then like the recipe for the remedy or something?...

I was just wondering if this is a lame idea..sorry if its confusing my thoughts on it are still unclear.

And if you guys do agree on this or have any ideas?? let me know:D
Also, what herbs would you definatly say put in to this handmade book....

thankyou ^^ How is everyone?

latin funk fitness classes [Aug. 20th, 2008|06:31 pm]

vancouver

[autumnsea]

Has anyone ever tried a latin funk dance fitness class around town?  I see them mentioned in a lot of community centre recreation guides.  Does it give you a good workout?  Are they fun?  I really like to dance (but I'm not very good at it), and it sounds like it might be a good alternative to going to the gym.  Thanks in advance!

Don't you just love how natural dreads can form recognizable shapes, just like clouds?
I think that this one looks like a well endowed lady.

What I've been up to... [Aug. 20th, 2008|07:23 pm]

scrapbookers

[shawnamafo]
My mother has asked me to make her an album of my nephew (her grandson) so that's what I've been doing the last week or so. She bought some supplies to give me so I've been trying to incorporate those as much as I can (even though they aren't always my taste) but so far I"m happy with how most pages are coming out. The pages are pretty simple just b/c of the sheer number of photos she wants me scrap...I'm trying to finish in a reasonable amount of time so I can get back to my own stuff!

...so anyway, here's some of it!

...a double page layout...the little star on the first page says "how are you feeling today?"

Great Recipe with Coconut Milk? [Aug. 20th, 2008|04:14 pm]

[Current Mood | hopeful]

Greetings!

I am in search of a cheap and easy recipe that my non veg husband might like for dinner involving coconut milk.

I opened a can of coconut milk last night and used about 1/4 of it in a frosting recipe and now I need your help with a great recipe for the remaining 3/4 of a can!

I'm thinking a great curry or.. well.. really anything. My husband isn't into soups much but has tried and enjoyed most of the ones I've made. I have on hand lots of staple veggies and of course various rices and such.

I did find this post which I am considering trying even though I don't have a full can of coconut milk.

Non-dinner items are also appreciated if they come highly recommended. Thanks in advance!

Hi all!

Okay, so I have to admit, I have been bad at keeping track of my period. Well, at least until now. I have been racking my brain for weeks, but I cannot for the life of me remember what days I started my period at all. The only one I can recall is last month, July, and it started on the 24th. But I do remember that it came late because I thought I was pregnant. I have heard that the body can delay your period if you are under stress, which I was. I was about a week late. So, basically, other than the last two months, I haven't been keeping track of my periods. I do not know if I am irregular or not.
My question is, when would I be able to take a pregnancy test? I don't know when to expect my period. If I based it on a 28 day cycle, it would technically be due today. But since I was late last month, is it not the same? I took one of those crappy dollar store HPTs today and it came out negative.
Here are my stats:
July 24th- Started period, about a week late. Which means it should have started on the 16th, I think.
BTW, I am TTC.
I had no idea when I would be ovulating, since I had been late the prior month.
Had intercourse on 8/10, 8/11, 8/12, and 8/16.
All the while, I had creamy, milky, lotion-like cervical mucus.
I did not experience egg-white cervical mucus, but did refrain from checking my cervical mucus 48 hrs after each time we had sex, because his sperm was still present. So I technically could have had EWCM then.
When should I be able to take a HPT?
I'm all off schedule so I don't know :(
Thanks for all your help ahead of time!

By now, I'm sure most of the community is at least vaguely familiar with a bizarre trope about gender that I've noticed emerging in the past ten or fifteen years - that of the high-powered, successful, driven, but emotionally underdeveloped woman and the horndog/slacker/stoner/goof-off man who's nevertheless a manipulative, successful liar, and cleverer than his successful lover/girlfriend/wife. I've seen this everywhere from Hollywood movies to Twix commercials, and of course it's on various sitcoms, which always seem to represent the stupidest of our cultural norms.

My mother and I were talking about this the other day, and what we couldn't figure out was this: it's almost always men who are writing and directing these various pieces of media, and we were both wondering what on earth men can get out of portrayals of themselves as perpetual child-men, as slobs, as shallow horn-dogs who don't really care about women as people and so on. If they're going to cede the battle on moral grounds, what are they gaining? It's such a loss of dignity. Plenty of men I know don't much care for the trope either - it's insulting and it's honestly not got all that much to do with reality. While Knocked Up was a funny movie, it was also really silly, and I have to admit, shallow though it makes me seem, I couldn't fathom why Vanity Fair (yes, I read Vanity Fair. My mother has a subscription. So shoot me!) would have Seth Rogan, who is not physically attractive, posing surrounded by drop-dead gorgeous starlets from various hot new television shows and up-coming films.

Is the aesthetic one of wish-fulfillment? That you can be not only unattractive physically, but also emotionally, and still get a beautiful, if "frigid" or "castrating", girlfriend? It still seems really, really limited to portray the hero as someone whose aspirations can't go beyond being the shitty boyfriend of someone who's too good for him - get a job! Go back to school! Start your own business! Advance yourself! Do something!

Maybe this particular trope has been discussed ad nauseum here (some topics are classics, others are just ooooold, I'm a terrible judge), so let's also have this post be about bizarre gender tropes in general - stereotypes whose origin, purpose, or beneficiary you can't figure out, and so on.
